How to design a perfect web site

Whether it is an e-commerce port or an information site or corporate home page the basic features required for designing a web site are more or less same. A web designer must understand the following things. The web site should follow the following basic guide lines. I am writing down only the very basic things.
A web site and the individual pages must load very fast. Your customers must get what they need as fast as possible. Nobody will wait for you longer than a minimum lag time. A visitor with slow connection may run away from a slow site very fast. Faster loading pages attract more visitors and visitors read and understand more from your page. So you have to select the page layout, graphics and animations so as to load fast and available on the mouse click.
Avoid strong and dark colours that shoot at the visitors. Your visitors will click away from such sites. The colours must be smooth and attractive. Avoid any meaningless flash screens and gimmicks. Too much of multimedia gimmicks spoil the charm of your site. Imagine a hurried visitor waiting for all that multimedia to load and the information or product he/she is looking for is far away!
Ensure easy navigation to and from in your web site. If one web owner play with the patience of a visitor to show a few more products before the check out point then it should land up in a mess. A doubtful visitor may run away before reaching a twisty exit.
The message you try to deliver your visitor must be very clear and sound. It should be straight forward and clear. As far a possible convey the important facts in the first page or home page itself. Make illustrations clear and understanding. Graphics must be enough and fast loading.
